Metro 2033 Bug Infestation by Pavel-Sokov Metro 2033 Bug Infestation by Pavel-Sokov
Photoshop CS2, 2010

Metro 2033 is a Russian book later made into a video game. The atmosphere of the game was incredible, and it influenced the making of this composition. The bug monster is not a creature from the game, nor are any of the soldiers, weapons, or the environment itself.

Very nice, though, I do have two criticisms. The first is that bug monsters are hugely over-done. Whether that's mostly for me, or just a general theme, I can't say with much surety, but it definitely doesn't inspire any of the fear it should in me. The second is that the perspective on the floor tiles and walls and so on looks off. I may be wrong, but they don't look right to my eyes.
To affirm some positive, though, I very much enjoy your depiction of the dilapidated metro, the damage from prior combat, the composure of the figures and lighting, and feeling of despair and decay all of that comes together to impart.

Those weren't too bad, actually. I've played so many games with virtually that same enemy MO (they don't like the light/they're afraid of fire/don't wander into the darkness) and so many giant bug monsters in underground levels that they weren't really that scary. I was actually sort of disappointed in them. They used that "All your electronics aren't working" thing a total of three times in the game and not even once did it happen when you were actually being attacked or anything. Since you can actually shoot off their armor, if I remember right, I was expecting at least one time when it would be something like a mad dash through a pitch black tunnel to the light at the other end with nothing but your Lighter to see any obstacles in your path.

Не плохая композиция, цвета и позы героев определенно подходят под тип игры и книги.
НО, разве бывают такие большие мутанты во Вселенной Метро2033?

Those Stalkers seem to have had a rather poor days scavenging.

On a separate note, I can see something like that in the book, or a scene like it. The guards at the four hundredth meter hear a chittering sound and see the shaking of the walls, then it smashes through them. The cordon at the three hundredth meter fairs little better, the sandbags and machinegun emplacements there tossed to the side like so much flotsam. Those were a patrol from the one hundred and fiftieth meter, just returning from checking in at the cordon.

Even has they try to slow it down, a handcart rushes from from the fiftieth meter. With a shout of warning, barely heard above the mad noise of the creature, they leap to the side has the handcart arrives. From it, or rather, the flamethrower mounted on it, spews forth a torrent of flame, consuming it in hellfire.

No matter how much the radiation of the surfaces twists it's enemies, mankind has always been better at finding ways to kill then any other species.

I applaud you sir.

This one took a while. Back in 2010 I was extremely inefficient and my computer was struggling with this file. So I think this took 100 hours around.

You are right actually, I don't remember any insect derived creatures in the game, and this giant bug would of made for an interesting boss encounter.

That would be so cool to be in one of the metro tunnels trading with a vendor and then that bug just pops in and starts wreaking havoc. :]

Come to think of it, I think these "mutant bugs" would be a lot more scarier than the mutants in the game. There would be many more of them, insectoid exoskeletons could meant hey are harder to kill, they'd breed much faster than animals and survive in extreme conditioning like scorpions and cockroaches. Not only that but they'd be much stronger too, if an ant was the size of a human being, it would be very scary, not to mention they'd lift cars and buses, and they'd be very fast as well.

Well unfortunately it doesn't work like that. If you took an ant and used some sort of futuristic technology to increase his size, he wouldn't be able to lift anything or even stand up. The way their insides are made does not support heavy objects, they would have to grow mammal-like red muscle to function in the larger scale.

Similarly if you took a gorilla and increased it's size to King Kong, that creature would buckle under its own weight, and the increased gravity of the large animal would be in excess (unproportionaly larger) then the increase of the entire animal as a whole. This would mean its bones won't hold up the animal and it would die.
